With just a week until the holiday shopping season unofficially kicks off on Black Friday, marketers everywhere are wondering what to expect from consumers. We found a nice preview from The NPD Group. It estimates that consumers will up their spending by 3% this year and buy an average of $636-worth of holiday-related items. The biggest increase is expected in tech/electronics (36% of consumers plan to spend here, up from 28% in 2015) while clothing/apparel (66%) and toys (41%) will be the most popular gifts purchased. Reaching a new high in 2016, it is estimated that 62% of consumers plan to shop online and get 38% of their shopping done through web-based channels. From all of these stats, it looks like shoppers are ready to open their wallets this holiday season. Is your business prepared?
