If you haven’t already heard, Instagram is grabbing headlines this week for introducing a new feature users can activate to prevent inappropriate comments from being posted with their photos. This comes as good news to many brands as the lack of control in avoiding uncalled-for commentary has long been a deterrent in using social platforms. Although measures to delete/report comments and block certain users were already in place, this feature takes it a step further and allows comment filtering as many Instagram accounts are public and give complete strangers the ability to weigh in. Users can now select a default list of keywords to hide or they can customize it by adding words, phrases, numbers or emojis they feel are inappropriate. It will be interesting to see what kind of effect this has in curbing online bullying and if other social channels will follow suit.
