Now that the most-touted shopping weekend of the year is over, what are the results? And, maybe more importantly, what did we learn about people's buying habits? According to The New York Times, sales for Thanksgiving and through the weekend were down an estimated 11%. Bloomberg reports Cyber Monday sales also slowed, with online shopping up just 8.5% compared to 20.6% the same day last year. The wrap-up? Instead of mass crowds converging on Black Friday, people were already busy shopping the week (or even weeks) before as many stores released early bird savings. Plus, with the rise in smartphone users, a lot of "anytime, anywhere" shopping is happening to fit consumers' busy lifestyles. Some experts also say the new trend of non-stop sales mode has shoppers waiting for better deals to pop up. It looks like consumers are still pulling out their pocketbooks, but they're definitely doing it on their own terms.
